Sand Racing Report 27th August 2022
The penultimate meeting of the season saw a different track
then normal as a large area of stones on the slip corner forced a smaller
configuration course to be used further south on the beach towards the wet
bend. Though a small inner section was created for the twisty course the
juniors & intermediates for once raced on the full oval.
With a number of A group MX riders missing due to a clashing
MX practice at Pleinmont & Billy Russell now on the side-lines due to a
broken collar bone only 4 riders appeared for this meeting. There was a
complete change of fortunes as Owen Waddingham who won all this classes races
at the last meeting was forced down into 2nd place as it was the
turn of Jarrod Carrington to dominate this meeting which sets things up nicely for
the final meeting of the season when these 2 will fight out for both
championships on offer. Josh Ballard & Kevin Rumens were the other runners
in this class. The B class MX riders were the only ones to get in their 5 races
as per programme & though George Bourgaize increased his lead in the twisty
championship not scoring any points in the oval races has now decreased his
advantage in that title race. Tom Wood, Marcus Crittell & Alisha Wild King
are all fairly close behind so again the final meeting should be a tense affair
as each tries for a top spot. Unfortunately the meeting was brought to a
premature end as Gemma Le Page whilst leading the handicap race took a tumble
in the rough slip corner that needed medical observation in the ambulance.
Though 4 races were started for the sliders there were only 2
results as no rider saw the chequered flag in races 2 & 3 thus leaving Erin
Ogier the only rider to have ridden regularly to lead this championship.
Tyler-James Savident the only junior MX rider has already won this class but
with 2 Intermediate riders both only ridden twice this season & on equal
points not sure if a championship will be awarded. The junior sliders class has
been won by Thomas Vining with Lewis Le Blanq 2nd & Digby Cleal
3rd whilst Sam Walker will win the intermediate class.
With Karl Marshall (racing Cars) & Matthew Board
(production cars up to 1800cc) being the only entrants in these classes they have
already won their championships. Likewise Eric Trump (production cars over
1800cc) & Steve Marquis (modified saloons) cannot now be beaten the only
trophy that looks still to be fought for is the saloon Northmore
trophy.
