Sand Racing Report 18th
May 2019
Though it is only
mid-May the sand race season is already coming up to its half way point at the
next event on 15th June. With a good tide, fair weather & no
hassles this meeting ran like clockwork with the only class not to run its 5
races was the sidecars as entering the wet bend on the third lap of the first
race there was an almighty bang as the engine on Clint Blondel& Kev
Bennett’s machine decided it had had enough of racing & was not going any
further. The number of car competitors was reduced due to either illness or
cars not being ready or having been vandalised. OzzyOzanne had not only
repaired the big Jaguar saloon but had changed colour scheme to reflect new
sponsorship by the Madmax Racing Team, though this did not stop him still
battling against the much lower powered Renault Clio of Gary Le Page. With no
competition Mark Le Page is well on his way to retaining the racing car
championship as well as winning the Martel Trophy in the handicap race, whilst
the 2 production car classes provide much of the action as places are tightly
fought for.
Clearly the longer
track suited visiting Jersey rider Jordan Noel as he won the 4 slider
championship races only losing out to Rob Teed in the Committee Cup race whilst
the elder statesmen Colin Teed & Dave Cleal were enjoying their own
battles. The 15 MX racers may be a nightmare to the lap recorders as they
produce battles throughout the class with places being changed almost every
lap, with Billy Rive taking the spoils on the twisty course whilst twin brother
Ricky took the oval course victory. It was a mid-pack rider Paul Le Messurier
who took away the Slater Trophy for the handicap race on the oval course.
The classes for cadets,
juniors & intermediates did not throw up any real surprises with the
positions won those which were expected. Bike problems meant Ben Le Prevost
missed out on 2 race winswhilst GiloRobilliard just got
the better of Lewis Le Blanq in the final cadet race.
