Sand Racing Report 8th September 2018

For the final time this year officials, competitors & spectators descended on Vazon beach to enjoy the last race meeting & after a large amount of sea weed had been moved off the course, racing could commence on a fairly flat & dry surface. Some of the championship’s had already been sealed but there was still points to be won or lost for the remaining positions so this meant there was still serious racing to take place. This was evident in the MX class as 12 riders came to the start gates, Joshua Lambourne having seized the engine on his bike in practice was using Kevin Rumens spare bike in their first race whilst his father went home to collect another bike, this left a fierce battle between the Rive twins & Josh Pinchemain. Second race was just as exciting with Joshua Lambourne now mounted on his spare bike taking the win. The battle resumed in the third race but as they came to the finish line for the chequered flag there was only a very small gap between the Rive twins & Joshua & as they bunched together Joshua came off his bike & his legs got tangled between the rear wheel & mud guard of one of the twins bike. This race was immediately red flagged so that the rescue unit & ambulance personal could attend to Joshua who was transported to hospital with suspected pelvic injuries. As this incident took time to conclude clerk of the course Ian Le Page abandoned the fourth block of races so moved on to the fifth & final set which included the 20 lap Pealing Carey handicap trophy for the MX bikes on the oval track. The bikes were sent off in a guesstimate order but it was still the 3 quickest bikes that came through with Ricky Rive taking the win on Joshua Lambourne’s bike. Sliders were back to the inter-island rivalry between Rob Teed & Jordan Noel (Jersey) with each taking 2 wins apiece whilst Colin Teed & Dave Cleal battled for third spot. Once again Ben Le Prevost joined the intermediates & came away with a string of third places though points would not be applied so Stephanie Best would claim these points. Not having a good day were brother &sister Harry & Erin Ogier as their bikes kept packing with Harry only scoring once as he pushed his bike over the finish line. The usual bunch of cadets & juniors were joined by Zach & Cody Wallbridge for their first events on sand & they would not have gone home disappointed as Cody went home with a couple of second places whist Zach on his little 50cc auto bike was not outshone by the more experienced cadet riders.

On 4 wheels making his first appearance this season & in a rear wheel drive car for the first time was Jonathan Robilliard in the BTS Toyota MR2 2000cc, unfortunately a broken exhaust meant he did little racing but at least he knows it runs & what needs repairing before next year. The racing cars were keep separate from the saloons for all races as the handicap race was lost due to the earlier delay& though she only finished one race this should have been enough for Lisa Le Page to claim the Davids Trophy. Though Paul Helyer won both races for the up to 1800cc production class by coming second both times Matthew Board just took this class championship subject to confirmation. Likewise Mark Le Page (racing cars),Eric Trump(production over1800cc) Gary Robert (modified saloons) Rob Teed (sliders) Thomas Vining (cadets) Ben Le Prevost (juniors) & Dan Clark (intermediates)should all be confirmed as champions. I cannot give an indication of the MX championships as this is yet to be verified. Now’s the time to clean & repair their machines before they are put into winter storage awaiting the start of the 2019 season.
