Sand Racing Report 30TH June 2018

After the previous meetings Battle of the Beach it was back to the normal championship & trophy races at this the latest in the local series of meetings. As it was in the middle of the world cup for football it could be said that Guernsey beat Jersey 3-2 as local rider Robert Teed took on his rival from Jersey Jordan Noel on their 500cc slider bikes & were very evenly matched. Jordan lost out because in one race coming too wide out of the wet bend he left enough room for Robert to nip though & take the win. Just to prove this is not only for youngsters Colin Teed & Dave Cleal both into their 60’s still complete at a fast rate. In the MX class with Billy Rive not appearing for this meeting it left the door open for others to shine with Joshua Lambourne taking 3 wins from Mark King’s 2 though they were being pushed all the way by Josh Pinchemain& Ricky Rive whether they were on the twisty infield track or using the full oval course. In the intermediates there is one very talented 13 yearold who has progressed year in year out since he began as a cadet rider & that is Dan Clark. Not to be outdone the other riders in this class push their hardest to give him some competition & don’t think is just young lads out there. 2 girls are enjoying their sport with Erin Ogier getting quicker as her bike now seems to be running better & suffering less mechanical problems & for Stephanie Best she was riding at this meeting after being crowned Prom Queen for her school the previous night. The combined junior/cadet class also has a youngster who wants to be a professional speedway rider as 8 year old cadet rider Thomas Vining leads most of the races being chased hard by junior rider Ben Le Prevost. The rest of the field enjoy their sport & again there is a young girl is this group Gemma Le Page who was having a much better meeting after a new engine was installed in her bike.

Mark & Lisa Le Page in their shared racing car must have been pleased that Gary Duquemin decided to bring his car out again this season as otherwise they would not either be chased or have to chase to gain any race wins, Mark going on to win the handicap race from Gary. The saloons were again tightly packed together with Matthew Board not afraid to give chase to the larger engine cars though 2 off these went home damaged, Jamie Lucas suffering engine problems in his Audi whilst Neil Bourgaize could not drive his Hyundai home from this event as the fuel tank had ruptured. The season is just about at its half way stage & from the next meeting on July 14th there are just 5 more events till the conclusion on 8th September.
