Sand Racing Report 27th May
2017
Confusion when the track limits flag was
shown to leading riders Billy Rive & Mark King by the clerk of the course Ian Le Page at the
end of the first lap of the first MX race saw these riders head into the pits
whilst the remaining riders continued racing. A close race was then fought out
between Josh Pinchemain, Paul Le Messurier& Jarrod Carrington & though
Josh led most of the way it was Jarrod who saw the chequered flag first, a feat
he repeated in the 3rd race when Billy did not appear. Billy’s only
win was in the second race whilst he was pipped by Mark King in their final race
on the oval course. Sand Race chairman took the honours in the handicap race as
the main battle was for second which Marcus Crittell just held onto. The two
local stalwarts of the slider class Dave Cleal& Colin Teed were joined by
Dan Winterton who was using the occasion to try out a new GTR motor before the
Sand Ace meeting. Though he gave Dave & Colin a head start in the 4
championship races he soon powered his way to the front leaving Dave &
Colin to fight over second place.
Only when he stalled his bike at the
start of the fourth junior/intermediate race did Dan Clarke not lead a race
from start to finish. Luke Bush & Patrick Le Friec battled out for
second/third spots but will have to watch out as Harry Ogier is gradually
getting quicker on his slider. Not far behind Erin Ogier, Ben Le Provost &
Jack Bougourd were racing for fifth to seventh places whilst Stephanie Best on
only her second outing was also gradually improving. The final race for this
group was brought to an early conclusion when the red flag came out as Jack
took a tumble exiting the slip bend but he was up & walking. Trying too
hard in a cadet race when chasing down the leader GiloRobilliard, Casey
Gallienne was another to take a tumble which resulted in the first red flag of
the day. Though Casey was up & about he did not continue racing thus
allowing Emma Le Page a string of second
places & moved Thomas Vining on his KTM, as his slider suffered a ECU
failure & Charlie Clark, younger brother of Dan, to pick up spot third
spots.
Only 7 cars appeared for this meeting, 3
racing cars of Billy Le Page, Gary Duquemin now with a 1100cc motor up from
900cc & Craig Addlesee in the ex Purple Dragon now painted bright yellow
were evenly matched & once Gary gets
the gearing & better tyres on his car this class could become very tight.
Neil Bourgaize& Matthew Board were evenly matched in their up to 1800cc
production cars whilst Karl Marshall though he would have some competition in
the over 1800cc class as Eric Trump would be out in a two litre Hyundai Coupe
but unfortunately a failed water pump ended his day after practice. Having
borrowed some of Billy’s wheels & tyres Gary found some extra speed in his
car which was enough to get him the win in the handicap race from his racing
car rivals.
Nest Meeting June 10th at
12.30pm.
