Sand Racing Report 13th May 2017

For the 3rd meeting of the year once again the closest battle’s for the winning position was raced out in the cadet & junior races. A slightly larger oval track was laid out for the cadets using the slip corner which meant they could maintain a faster pace& it was very close between Gilo, Casey & Gemma whilst just behind them racing for 4th place was Thomas Vinning& Charlie Walker & though he came last in every race little Charlie Clark was enjoying his afternoon. The juniors use the same course as the adults & with Dan Clarke not being present (was suppose too be racing in the UK, meeting cancelled due to lack of ambulance cover) the battle for top honours was between the 2 MX mounted riders of Patrick & Luke whilst Harry was the leading slider rider. Behind these 3 Jack Bougourd& Ben Le Prevost where swapping 4th place whilst Erin Ogier& Sam Walker were never that far behind, making her debut was Stephanie Best who took a tumble when the bike got away from her on the start line but this did not deter her from remounting to finish that & every race.

Billy Rive did not have things all his own way though taking 3 championship race wins for the MX riders on the twisty course, his efforts in chasing down all the other competitors on the same course in the handicap race resulted in 2 tumbles thus leaving Nathan Pinchemain to take the honours. He then found he just could not match the speed of Mark King who prefers the oval course to the twisty one when they came out for the final race. Only 3 riders came down on sliders with Rob Teed beating his father Colin in every race as most senior rider Dave Cleal just could not hold onto Colin’s pace so was always 3rd.

A slightly reduced entry of cars were present for this meeting with only 2 racing cars, Billy Le Page did not manage to get out till the handicap race due to a misfire so Gary Duquemin was on maximum points for the first 3 races. In between the racing cars & the production cars 1400-1800cc, Karl Marshall in the fully road legal Renault Clio from the over 1800cc class at the moment has no competition in this class so has some lonely races. The 3 drivers with their regular cars lead the 1400-1800cc class, as Jonathan & Andrew Robilliard(Peugeot 206)& Jamie Lucas(Audi A3 Estate) were all out in new cars as the ones they had used at the first meeting had suffered damaged or engine problems that were not repairable, though it seems that Jamie was unlucky again as engine problems effected his car. Closet race of the day was the handicap race were Billy showed his speed adavantage to gain the win but second was much closer with Jonathan just pipping Karl.
