Sand Racing Report 26th August
2017
At this the penultimate meeting of this
season the car competitors face their longest challenge with the running of the
Victoria Trophy handicap race over 20 laps which is two & a half times
longer than the normal 8 lap races. This means that the fastest cars have to
sit on the start line for what seems an eternity whilst the slower cars race
pass. Gary Duquemin the eventual race winner kept track of Matthew Board the
first car away & noticed that he came across the finish line twice before
he was dispatched meaning he had to overtake him three times to gain the lead,
trying to keep a tally of the laps as he raced Gary got to about 5 before he
lost count so just concentrated on passing each car till he caught up with
Matthew with a couple of laps to spare. Third place fell to Jonathan Robilliard
who was the last saloon to start this race before any of the racing cars,
unfortunately neither Sam De Carteret or Billy Le Page (broken front wishbone)
in their racing cars started. Meanwhile the sliders had a chance to race for
the Coronation Vase but with Dave Cleal taking a tumble at the end of the
second race the field was down to 3, with Jersey man Noel Jordan having to take
on the father & son pairing on Colin & Bob Teed. Trying too hard to
catch Colin, Noel took a tumble on the wet bend which may have slowed Bob down
slightly as Colin just kept the lead till the end.
With a clashing motocross event numbers
were down again in the MX class though competition was fierce throughout the
field with Billy Rive & Jarod Carrington battling for top honours with Mark
King ready to pounce if anything went wrong, middle field battle was a family
affair between the Pinchemain’s whilst the closet battle all afternoon was
between the two back markers Kevin Rumens & Marcus Crittell. With Billy
making a poor start to the final race on the full oval track, the oval championship
is finely poised for the final meeting as he is on level points with Mark King.
In the cadet class Thomas Vining lead the
way from the trio of GiloRobilliard, Corey Le Friec& Casey Gallienne whilst
Charlie Cox had company from newcomer Lewis Le Blanq who was out on Thomas’s
original KTM. By far the largest class of the afternoon was the combined
junior/intermediate’s which had swelled to 12 riders with the inclusion of
newcomers Taj Trench out on the clubs MX bike & Jason Le Ber on the Ogier
family’s spare slider. Unusually Dan Clark on a slider had to battle for race
wins with both Luke Bush & Patrick Le Friec pushing him hard on their MX
bikes. Likewise thought out the field there were battles between the different
types of bikes being used & between the sexes as there are now 3 young
ladies racing against the boys.
