Sand Racing Report 29th April
2017
Officials agreed that the money used to
send the cadet & junior riders away the previous weekend for one to one
training was well spent. Not only had this group of 6 to 16 year olds both boys
& girls bonded as a group & were encouraging each other over the 2 days
away but all had come back better prepared to continue their love of this
sport. Though Thomas Vining had come back bruised & battered after taking a
serious tumble away he was determined to ride the new bike that came back with
him, replacing his MX 65cc machine with a 110cc slider& placed in the top 3
including a win in the first 4 races before taking another tumble in the last
race, he did remount & finish this race. Gemma Le Page was another who has
found more speed & is now pestering her dad for a quicker bike, both these
riders have to look out for GiloRoblliard& Casey Gallienne as there were
close battles for the top finishing positions whilst newcomer Harry Blackwell
also gained a 3rd place. Not to be left out were Charlie Clark &
Charlie Walker who were having their own battle at the rear of the field of
this cadet class. The junior class was not as close with Dan Clarke, Luke Bush
& Harry Ogier leading the way, unfortunately Patrick Le Friec’s bike had
engine problems so could not compete. The main battle in his class will be
fought out lower down the field between Ben Le Prevost & Erin Ogier, Jack
Bougourd& Sam Walker.
Rob Teed only managed one win this week
as he had strong opposition in the slider class from Jersey man Jamie
Griffiths, leaving Colin Teed & Dave Cleal to battle for 3rd
place, whilst another Jersey rider when home with the Coronation Cup for the
handicap race. Another dominant performance in the MX class saw Billy Rive
outclass all other riders to take 5 wins with his twin brother following home
on the 4 twisty course races, whist Mark King took 2nd spot on the
oval course. Paul Le Messurier took all 5 3rd spots whilst the
closest battles were for the lower places. Only 2 sidecar outfits appeared
& though Clint Blondel let Bill Cohu have a head start he soon overtook to
take the wins except for the Liberation Cup race where he did 1 too many
doughnuts on the starting area & could not quite catch Bill.
With a number of cars suffering from
either bodywork damage or serious engine failings this field was reduced from
the 1st meeting though the 3 racing cars did last out the meeting
with Clint Blondel& Billy Le Page evenly matched leading away from Gary
Duquemin’s smaller engine car. Karl Marshall was the only over 1800cc
production car so the main battle was in the 5 car 1400cc-1800cc class where
Paul Helyer had the quicker machine but it was very close between the Peugeot’s
of Eric Trump & Matthew Board, Neil Bouraize in a Mazda 323 estate &
Craig Addlesee in a Ford Puma which though quick down the straights was all
over the place in the corners especially the wet bend, different tyres to be
sourced before the next meeting.
