Sand Racing Report 4th June
2016
After the last trilling sand race meeting
is was back to the beach for the 4th round of the local scene,
disappointing that the 2 headline classes at the Sand Ace meeting could only
muster 8 competitors in total at this meeting which gradually diminished as the
racing progressed. As Anthony Bougourd concentrates on the championship races
he only appeared for the first three races which but then had Billy Rive
retiring his bike which appeared not to be running as quick as usual. This left
only Rob Teed, his father Colin & Dave Cleal to run the last 2 races,
though for all the 5 races the closest battle was between the 2 elder statesmen
of this class with Colin giving Dave an usual hard time with very little
between them at the finish line. Progress had been made in the sidecar class as
3 machines were on the beach but it was only Clint Blondel/Ross Young who
completed 4 of the 5 races, Jamie Queripel/Nathan Baudains retiring after the 1st
lap of the 1st race whilst Bill Cohu/Jason Carre also never got to
see the chequered flag due to water getting into the electrics.
Largest bike class was the motor cross
class with 9 riders present & once again Billy Rive almost got a clean
sweep of wins only failing in their 1st race when he dropped his
bike exiting the tricky very twisty infield section & could not get the
bike restarted tillafter the race was completed. He was not the only one to
come off as a number of riders throughout the races took a tumble without
injury. Ricky Rive took the win in that 1st race & followed up
with 3 second places whilst 3rd spot was hotly contested by a number
of riders with places being exchanged right up to the chequered flag. The
juniors/intermediates also may use on the main track & once again Dan Clark
lead every lap of every race on his slider whilst Luke Bush on his MX bike took
all the 2nd spots, Kieren Bennett also on a MX bike had some good
tussles with Harry Ogier on his now 250cc Slider but it was Kieren who won the
3rd places. Erin Ogiercontinues to improve on her slider whilst Ben
Le Prevost was the only competitor in this class to have to retire. Sam Walker
with one race meeting already under his belt had 2 other riders to contend with
this meeting & will have to watch out for Gemma Le Page, a third generation
member of this family to race on the beach, as she got to grips with riding her
Honda 70cc machine before retiring with water ingress problems, whilst
GiloRobilliard had no problems on his little 50cc bike.
The car classes were due to be split as 4
racing cars had entered but it was only the usual drivers of Clint Blondel&
Gary Duquemin that appeared, with Clint taking all the scratch race wins,
whilst Gary took the handicap trophy before breaking a front spring, they
therefore joined the saloon cars. Even here 2 cars failed to appear but the
racing was still close particularity between Eric Trump, Karl Marshall &
Jonathan Robilliard. Richard Valpied has had no luck this year having gone back
to a Puma, retired with clutch failure after the 1st race, whilst
Neil Bourgaize was having electrical problems with his car. A racing number
that has not seen the light of day for a few seasons reappeared on the beach as
73 Matthew Board (using dad Dave’s old number) having enjoyed 2 races a month
ago had found & prepared a Peugeot in the same blue/white colour scheme as
Dave’s Mini for this event.(I hear the Mini is being prepared for Matthew to
use at the next sprint).
