Sand Racing Report 31st May 2014

It was excellent preparation for Anthony Bougourd as he took 5 race wins in the latest sand race meeting only losing one race which was for the Le Feuvre Handicap trophy where he tried to chase down the only other finisher & winner Rob Teed but lost out but only a couple of bike lengths at the end of the 5 laps. Rob was best of the rest in the majority of the races with Dave Cleal the only other rider to gain a 2nd place whist AnyonRobilliard& Bill Cohu were the only riders in 3rd place as the final 3 races  saw Anthony & Rob as the only finishers. In the MX class Billy Russell had some series competition from Frankie Brouard making his first appearance in this class but this did not stop him from taking 4 wins on the twisty circuit. Tony Duquemin put in steady rides to take the majority of the third place spots. What was more interesting in this class was the appearance of the dangerous brothers (Paul & Ian Le Messurier) on their identical Kawasaki 450cc’s (note they were not sharing) & though they were at the back of the field their speed increased with every race with Paul outpacing Ian.

When out on the track Billy Rive on the 250cc slider outraced the motocross bikes but these riders were seriously competitive with the results always hanging in the balance to the finish line between Josh, Jarrod & George. Unfortunately a tumble by Rhys Melass in the first race ended his days racing as a trip to the hospital was required due to an injured knee whilst Ricky Rive was still getting to grips with his new slider. Another rider to take a tumble after the finish line in the third cadet race was Dan Clark & though the bike was damaged he did come out for the next race on his motocross bike (which he does not enjoy riding) before that one broke down. The 2 youngsters on their motocross bikes Kieran Bennett & Ben Le Prevost had some close battles even though there is 3 years difference in their ages.

Gary Duquemin& Darren De Carteret added to the list of drivers making an appearance in the car classes for this season but that meant there were still only 7 cars racing. Closest battles were between the production cars of Eric Trump & Wayne Martel, whilst Simon Carre beat Darren in the 4wd saloons & Clint Blondel had the upper hand over Gary in the racing cars whilst Lee Corbet had the only modified saloon.

With 6 weeks to the next local championship meeting this should be enough time for repairs, rebuilds or final preparations to be completed so that bigger number of entrants could be expected.

Next meeting on 14th June at 12.30pm is the Condor Ferries Sandace ACU British Championship.
