Sand Racing Report 17th May 2014

Anthony Bougourd lost his 2014 season record of winning every race so far this year, winning the first championship & scratch race’s but was forced out with mechanical problems during the 2nd championship race thus leaving the other exciting rider on the beach in the form of Martyn Guilbert to take the remaining 4 race wins. 2nd placing’s were fought out by the masters of the beach Bill Cohu& Dave Cleal with them taking 2 each. In the Committee Cup race we saw the potential of young George Van Der Tang who rode an outstanding race to outpace the master riders to take a well earned 2nd place. Only other rider to gain a top 3 place was Colin Teed.

With only 5 MX riders it was decided to run the infield section without a Jump so the course was laid without a short straight so was twister than normal. This did not stop Billy Russell taking 5 wins even though he moved up to his dad’s bigger 450cc bike from his normal 250cc machine, the only rider to spoil his full sheet of wins was Matt Le Gallez who spent all afternoon battling with his brother Paul. Dan Pinchemain was the only other rider to get his name in the results list.

The Intermediates class saw the addition of George Symons on an 85cc Kawasaki which certainly brought more competitionbetween the motocross riders with all 4 riders battling out for highest championship points. At last Billy Rive should have had some completion on his slider as his brother Ricky now has his own slider bike by was unable to get it running & unfortunately Billy also had problems so only finished 2 races.

Ben Le Prevost at 7 years old the youngest rider on the beach was getting use to riding his rebuilt bike having blown the motor at the first meeting & was pushing Kieran Bennett on his similar bike but neither rider could live with the speed of Dan Clarke’s slider bike, but Dan suffered engine problems so only completed the first 3 races.

Cars only mustered a poor entry of 6 drivers & with Graham Carrington having plug troubles, he only completed the 5th race of a 6 race programme. A name from the distant pass made a return to Vazon as a Purple Dragon driven by a C Blondelwas on the entry list but this was not Colin in a big Chevrolet front engine racing car but Clint in a rear engine 1000cc Honda Fireblade car & he did not disappoint as he showed great speed once he got use to having spray in his face from passing other cars as he ended the day but taking the win in the handicap race having to overtake the other 3 saloon starters. The 3 saloon drivers Eric Trump, Wayne Martel & Lee Corbet would love to have more competition in this the cheapest form of beach car racing as a stripped down road going car is all that is required with just a few safety features needed to be added.

Next Meeting 31ST May at 1.30pm.
