SAND RACING REPORT 21st September
2013
A
grey dismal foggy day greeted the competitors as they arrived at Vazon for the
last meeting of this season. Once again UK riders Dan Winterton & Steve
Lomas tried to dominate the meeting but broken chains on Dan’s bike & a
misfire on Steve’s machine allowed local rider Rod Teed to gain 2 well worth
wins though it was Steve who took away the days silverware. The only other
rider to gain a top 3 placing was an improving Anyon Robilliard who out rode
long time rivals Bill Cohu, Dave Cleal & Colin Teed. Meanwhile at the back
of the field George Vandertang & Eddie Goracy were enjoying their afternoon
whilst Dave Patten had forsaken his ride to go marshalling on the wet bend.
The
6 motocross riders had decided to put out the longest track possible for them
to ride so rode to the exit of the slip bend before making a sharp left turn
into the infield then taking a sharp right hander into the straight that would
lead to the jump which was followed by another short straight before another
tight right turn which would lead them out onto the normal back straight.
Champion elect Barney Henry took all 5 race wins from an improving Matt Le
Gallez on his new 450cc machine. 3RD spot was contested by Billy
Russell, Paul Le Gallez & Tony Duquemin up until Paul & Tony had to
retire with bike problems & though it was the last meeting this did not
stop Martin Symons making his first appearance making improvements as the afternoon
wore on. There were 4 Intermediate riders who were mixing up their finishing
positions as after the first 2 races Billy Rive changed from the slider unto
the smaller Honda 85 whilst his brother Ricky got another chance to have a go
on the slider. For their final race they all rode motocross bikes so that they
caught ride the motocross course though Josh Lamourne decided to give the jump
a miss & was fortunate to take this race win as long time leader George
Symons dropped his bike on the exit of the wet bend, remounting to take third.
The Cadets had their usual battles with Rhys Melass taking the first 2 race
wins from Dan Clark but this was reversed in the 3rd race as Rhys’s
bike was misfiring. The next race saw Rhys out on Barnaby Queripel’s bike whilst
Barnaby rode Rhys’s bike before riding their own bikes for the final race.
Kieran Bennett took third spot in the first 3 races before having bike
troubles. Having their own little battle at the back of the field were the 2
younger riders Ben Le Prevost & Braden Morris on their small 50cc machines.
With
the majority of the car drivers up in Alderney for their motorsport weekend
only 4 drivers in 3 white cars came down to race. Eric Trump bringing out last
year’s Renault Clio was the only saloon present so took maximum saloon trophy
points. Jack Sanders shared his car with newcomer John Penney whilst Andrew
Henry had the use of Gary Duquemin’s car. Jack took maximum championship points
whilst John used the car for the remaining races coming away with the handicap
race win before blowing up the motor in the following race.
Now
is the time to strip down your machines, give them a good clean, rebuild,
repair, repaint & get ready for next year’s season which begins in April
2014.
