SAND RACING REPORT 27th April 2013

A sunny but windy day greeted the competitors as they descended on Vazon bay for the 2nd meeting on this season. With no English riders entered it was just locals on the sliders & with neither Anthony Bougourd or Queripel riding the field was open for other riders to shine. Most impressive was Martyn Guilbert who from the start would ride a very wide line into the first corner to overtake the entire field before he came onto the back straight & having gained a sizable advantage managed to do a wheelie as he crossed the finish line on each lap of the 4 lap races. The remaining top places were taken by the old guard of Mike Clarke, Bill Cohu & Dave Cleal with Rob Teed sneaking in two 3rd places.

The motocross entry was the same number as the previous meeting but with 2 changes of competitors seeing the return of the Pearce brothers back onto the beach from the days when they rode as juniors. Brett dominated this meeting with 4 wins whilst it was his brother Jake who brought the meeting to an early close as having taken a tumble after coming off the lowered jump needed to be taken to hospital with a hip injury. Having a lower jump meant the no one by passed it & a longer run into the following corner made the course easier to ride which made for closer racing.

Juniors were down to just 2 riders with Josh Lambourne unable to ride due to an athletics injury & it was newcomer to the beach George Symons who got the upper hand over regular rider Ricky Rive.

The cadets were back out on the big track as they enjoyed this better than the small course used last year as they could get more speed out of their machines. The close racing between Dan Clarke & Rhys Melass was brought to a halt in race 2 when Dan took a tumble which not only gave him a few bruises but also blow the motor in his bike. This moved every one up the lap charts bringing in the only girl riding Chloe Le Page up to two 3rd places.

Car entries were up to 10 cars with both racing cars running this meeting & with three 4wd saloons running there is a class now for them with Simon Carre in the Quattro leading from Shaun Leigh in a Ford Mondeo with Darren De Carteret in the Subaru bringing up the rear but taking the Ken Jay Handicap Trophy. Largest car class was production 1401cc-1800cc with Martin (Bimbo) Dorey making a return to the beach in a VW Polo joining Paul De Jersey in an automatic Honda which lost its gears  after just one race but the main positions were fought out by the same 3 competitors from the previous meeting Lee Sebire, Eric Trump & Wayne Martel.
