Sand Racing Report 18/08/2012

A disappointing turn out of just 5 saloon cars graced Vazon sands for the latest sand race meeting where victory was guarantee in the car competitors greatest challenge the 20 lap Victoria Trophy. All came under starters orders but 1st to drop out was Shaun Leigh with a puncture on his Honda Civic, next to go was Darren De Carteret with a smelly clutch on the Subaru & finally Craig Addelesse with some fault on the little Mitsubishi Colt. This left just Eric Trump in the Renault Clio & Simon Carre in the Audi Quattro & though by half distance scratch man Simon was onto the same lap as Eric the distance was just too much to make up before the flag fell to a happy Eric would claimed his 4th handicap trophy on this season.

The senior motorcycles started off badly with an accident between Colin Teed & Martyn Guilbert in the wet bend on the first lap of practice. Though Colin was up & and about walking he took no further part in racing as his bike was damaged whereas Martyn had to be taken to hospital with the injuries he substained. The 3 leading riders Anthony’s Bougourd & Queried & Mike Clarke were all trying out stone deflectors attached to their machines to reduce the amount of debris throwned up into path of following competitors. Anthony Queripel took all 4 championship race wins, Bougourd the win for the Coronation Cup, & Clarke the win for points in the Committee Cup. One rider making a good impression on only his second outing on a slider was Anyon Robilliard who was returning to the beach 19 years after last running as a junior. A father & son combination were competing in this class for the first time as Billy Russell on his 125 KTM had now moved up from the juniors to compete against his dad Nick on the more powerful Honda 450. Nick beating his son in all races meant Billy had to clean down both bikes as having lost a bet to see who would be the leading rider of this pairing.

With Jarod Carrington not present this left Josh Lambourne as the only junior racing so he was put out with the 2 cadets who moved up from riding on their smaller course to the full bike course for the first time. As Josh was running in a rebuilt motor & so as to allow the cadets to have as much fun as possible he was giving himself a self imposed handicap but starting almost a lap later then the other 2 but still managed to take the first 4 race wins, unfortunately the strain on the motor having to push hard to catch the others caught Josh out as in their 5th race the motor let go again.
