SANDRACING REPORT 21/04/2012

If you were riding a 500cc slider & your name was Anthony then you were guaranteed to be a winner of one of the senior motorcycle races at the 2nd meeting of the season. Anthony Bougourd took 2 championship race wins & the Committee Cup points whilst Anthony Queripel also took 2 championship race wins & the Ray Le Poidevin scratch race trophy. The remaining 2nd & 3rd places were fought out by Mike Clarke & Dave Cleal thought Colin Teed did manage 3rd spot in the trophy race. This just left Eddie Goracy & Dave Patten to battle for the minor places as there were only these 7 competitors in this class.

As no racing races were present this left 7 saloons to do battle but once again we lost one competitor Shaun Leigh before racing began with a broken oil filter on his Honda Civic. Simon Carre in the 4wd Subaru Legacy dominated the field thought having to run in his own class as he has an advantage over the other 2wd competitors. This meant that in the over 1800 class Faye Downs how has competition from Darren De Carteret in the Nissan Primera. In the 1400-1800cc class Karl West in the rear engine Toyota MR2 took 2 of the 3 championship race wins whilst newcomer Craig Whales in a Honda Concerto (not the Civic broken at the 1st meeting) put in a sterling drive to claim the 3rd championship race win. Only up to 1400 competitor Eric Trump drives the socks off this little car not being afraid to pick in with the other competitors & once again claiming honours handicap race for the Connington trophy.

The same 3 riders as the 1st meeting were entered & once again Josh Lambourne took all 6 race wins, whilst Jarod Carrington took 5 of the 6 2nd places but then he did have the advantage of starting the first 4 races whilst Billy Russell was sidelined. Billy having had to replace the engine in his Kawasaki after the last meeting just could not get the engine to fire up so looked to be out for the afternoon, but some telephone calls saw one of the Rive twins Honda’s appear late on allowing Billy to get in the last 2 races.

The cadets joined the racing for this meeting with Daniel Clark & Barnaby Queripel out to enjoy their afternoon. Barnaby came out on top

whilst Daniel had a terrible day with a bike that sounded wrong & just would not pull away from the start line, stalling most times & having to be restarted by a marshal. To Barnaby’s credit in one race he did a lap then stopped on the finish line whilst Daniels bike was started & made sure Daniel was running before pulling away so that they could have a race. Hopefully this problem on his bike will be fixed by his dad before the next meeting on 5th May at 11.15am.
