SANDRACING REPORT 15/05/2010

The 3rd meeting of this season had action & drama from start to finish, even before official racing had even begun the ambulance was called down onto the beach when the slightly spinning grasstrack car of Simon Carre was biffed in the side by Vienna Le Cheminant’s car he had just passed during practice resulting in a very painful right arm for Simon & dented bodywork & protection bars on his car. The 2nd race of the afternoon the 1st for the juniors had to be stopped twice firstly when Billy-Reece Rive stalled on the line & then secondly when on the next attempt the elastic start cord got wrapped around his front wheel causing him to come to a sudden stop. On the 3rd start the remaining 4 riders did get away but Billy was in the pits having the cord removed front his wheel & receiving a warning from his dad not to start on the inside again. For the rest of the afternoon the Rive twins, Billy Russell & Josh Lambourne put on a terrific show with the winner of each race not being decided until the leaders exited the final corner. Meanwhile Jarrod Carrington on the 4 stroke small wheeled Honda 70 just kept racing away at the back of the field. With Simon Carre sidelined this allowed Mark Ozanne in his Ozzyworth 2200 which was running much better then on its appearances last year to dominate the car races whilst Jean-Paul Kennedy gained more experience in his grasstrack car now fitted with a 636cc motor. The only alteration to the saloons was that Shaun Leigh had brought down the Vauxhall Cavalier in place of the clutch slipping Toyota MR2.

The senior bikes were short of 3 top riders so this allowed Anthony Queripel to dominate but the battle for 2nd place was fierce between a very on form Jon Le Page & a greatly improved Robert Teed, with Jon just getting the upper hand. This left Dave Cleal & Colin Teed on their sliders to pick up the lower places whilst Pierre Rive & Nick Russell on their much larger road bikes were left to battle with the 3 riders in the up to 350cc class as bike captain Phil Ferbrache was out on his Honda CR 250 & English rider Steve Matthews had brought over his ageing Antig slider fitted with a 250cc BSA motor. Unfortunately racing was curtailed when in the final bike race of the afternoon Anthony Queripel lost his metal shoe plate going into the slip bend thus losing control of his bike resulting in a collision with a close following Jon Le Page, this necessitated the use of 2 ambulances to take the riders for check ups at the hospital.
