Sandrace Report July 31st
After a 7 week summer break it was back to racing for the sand race competitors but with a miscalculation with the height of the tide at low water the track though long was much tighter then usual in the corners which resulted in both bike & car drivers being warned during their first races about hitting the course marked cones, in fact the car race was red flagged & the car drivers brought into the centre of the track so that the clerk of the course Ian Le Page could give the drivers a stern warning about their driving standards. After that the racing resumed without any further incident.
The cars were again thin on the ground & with 3 entrants not appearing this left only 8 competitors. Mark Ozanne once again dominated with his racing car whilst Simon Carre had to run in a new Suzuki motor in his grass track machine. For once Vienna Le Cheminant had some competition in production cars up to 1400cc with the first appearance of Darren De Carteret in his Rover 214 who managed to take the first championship race win & the win in the handicap race. Production cars 1401-1800cc was lead all the way by Jack Sander in the rear engine MR2 whilst Ricky Le Cheminant in the underpowered 1500 Civic was gaining points on the missing class leader. Production cars over 1801cc should have been the closet fought contest of the afternoon as in the first race Eric Trump in the Honda Accord Estate & Shaun Leigh in the Cavalier were constantly changing places but on ending that first race the radiator in Eric car blow apart leaving Shaun on his own for the rest of the day even driving almost the whole of one race with a front puncture.
Junior Riders were also down in numbers with Honda 85 cc Rider Billy-Reece Rive having to defend the 1st place spot from Billy Russell on his Kawasaki 85 whilst Josh Lambourne on his lower powered bike KTM 65 did his best to challenge the 2 more powerful machines; Jarod Carrington on the Honda 70 had to bring up the rear once again.
