SANDRACING REPORT 19/09/2009

The penultimate meeting of the year was held on what was described as the wettest & roughest beach seen for many years & though the Guernsey competitors copped with these conditions the 3 Jersey car drivers found it much different for the usual dry sand in Jersey. In effect each car was suffering from overheating with the radiators soon getting coated in slimy sand or damaged by flying stones to the extent that even a dozen eggs couldn’t stop the leaks from one car & gluing the top of another didn’t solved his problems & a replacement radiator was too big to fit either car. The third car ran better but ended up with a bend front end after attacking one of the corner marker barrels. 2 of these cars have remained in Guernsey for repairs so that they can come out for the last meting of the year on 3rd October. The only real battle in the cars was to see if Eric Trump could get ahead of Production car class 1400-1800cc leader John Dean to put on some pressure on his lead in this class as Paul Stanford has retired for the final 2 meetings so will be giving up 2nd place in this championship.

For the bike boys this was the final Team Challenge & with only 7 senior riders present it was decided that the junior riders races would also be counted towards the team challenge giving them even more incentive to race hard, unfortunately Billy Russell just couldn’t get his bike to run at all so it only left the battling Rive twins to take an almost equal share of the 1st two places whilst Jarod Carrington on his smaller less powerful bike took the 3rd place spots. The seniors were dominated by Dan Winterton whist Martyn Guilbert had a string of second places & Dave Cleal took a number of 3rd places. Bill Cohu was out on 2 wheels again but could only score 1 3rd place spot along with Colin Teed where as Mike Clarke managed a 1ST, 2ND & 3RD placing whist son Darren missed out on any top placing. At the end of the day the Richmond Rebels beat the Albecq Allstars 155 points to 145.
