SANDRACING REPORT 23/05/2009
With car breakdowns & impending school holidays there was a distinct shortage of vehicles for the 4th round of this season though 3 racing cars did manage to make it to the grid. Once again Ina Shorto in the Berrisford 1300 grass track car (which by the way is up for sale) dominated proceedings whilst Ricky Le Cheminant in the single seater shape car was the quicker of the remaining cars until his old boggy of broken half shafts ended his afternoon. The final car in this class was Simon Carre’s Z-Bird which has lost its 1100cc in favour of the smallest engine that has been seen in any car for quite a number of years in a 600cc bike engine & fuel tank bolted complete into the back of this car.
Saloons were down to just 8 cars with only Mark Ozanne in the Jag Sierra Special Saloon, Jon Le Page in the Audi Quattro 4WD & Lisa Robilliard back in the 1300 Micra production cars up to 1400cc (the Golf from last meeting is being prepared for hillclimbs). This left 5 cars in the Production cars 1401-1800cc with John Dean in the Rover 1595 to take the winning spots for this class & the handicap race, club president Bill Cohu was down in his Honda CRX to take 2nd places whilst Paul Stanford in the Toyota Corolla took the 3rd spots. Unfortunate drivers were once again Doug Le Feuvre in his Honda CRX which still will not run on all cylinders whilst Eric Trump in the Hyundai burnt out the replacement clutch during the first race of the afternoon.
In the Junior bike class the rivalry between the Rive twins continues with Billy-Reece pipping his brother Ricky-Lee to the number one spot 5 times out of 7 races but they must watch out as newcomer to the beach Jordan Palmeri on his KTM 65 split them for 2nd spot in the final race of the day after leading most of that scratch race & also claiming 5 3rd places in the championship races. The only other rider to gain a top 3 spot was Josh Lambourne who took 3rd in the opening race of the afternoon whist Jarod Carrington improves in his 1st season on the beach.
For the adult bike riders this was their last chance to hone their skills, on what was a very rough track particularly in the wet bend were is was like driving/riding across a series of parallel railway tracks, as there is now a five week gap before the big bike meeting of the year the Sand Ace Meeting. To get in some extra practice Daniel Winterton was entered & he gave Anthony Queripel some stern opposition taking 4 championship race wins to Anthony’s 1. For once the 3rd place spots were being hotly contested with all the remaining riders claiming this position at some time during the afternoon. Loneliest man of the day was Eddie Goracy on the 250 Honda as he was running just for his own enjoyment as there were no other riders in the Moto X class.
