Sandracing Report April 25th 2009
The second meeting of this season saw an increase in the number of competitors taking part with the junior bike riders appearing for the first time this year and thought it was left to the Rive twins to battle for the 1st & 2nd spots with Billy taking 4 wins to Ricky’s 3 Josh Lambourne could be facing stern opposition for the 3rd placing as newcomer Jarod Carrington will be pushing him hard.
On 4 wheels there should have been 4 racing cars but unfortunately for Simon Carre his rebuilt engine in the Z-Bird just would not fire up so was back on the trailer before the meeting began. This obviously was not going to be a good afternoon for these cars as firstly Paul Morgan’s’ Special broke a steering arm in the 1st race, but was out racing again later in the afternoon after this part had been removed from the car, rushed home & welded, returned & refitted. Meanwhile regaining champion Ian Shorto have fixed the car after an off at the Easter hillclimb was suffering electrical problems which left him with only 2 2nd placing before a broken chain ended his day. This only left Mark Le Page in his brothers Allyson (FOE SALE) Busa to take a couple of wins before blowing an oil pipe.
In the saloon classes Mark Ozanne had reverted to the 4litre Ford Sierra to give Colin Bridle competition in the special saloon class thus leaving John Le Page as the only 4wd competitor whilst the modified’s was only contested by Steve Marquis & Alison Baudains. In the production classes Shaun Leigh crash at the Easter hillclimb had written off the Cavalier thus leaving only June Ozanne in the largest class. In the middle class Paul Stanford & John Dean were joined by Doug Le Feurve in his Honda CRX & Eric Trump in a new car for this season a Hyundai but it was only Paul that managed all races as John had a recurrence of the clutch problems from the previous meetings, Doug’s car was misfiring whilst Eric was suffering from a sticky starter. In the smallest class Peter Jory & Lisa Robilliard were joined by newcomer Nathan Baudains in a Nissan Sunny but again a faulty clutch ended his afternoon.
In the Bike classes late 250 Entry Phil Ferbrache ran with no competition once Eddie Goray retired his bike. In the slider class Anthony Queripel once again dominated taking a maximum 7 wins whilst the 2nd spots were shared but long time competitor Dave Cleal & Simon Cohu who having retired from this sport has decided to make a partshal return. Mike Clarke took 3rd place in the 1st race but then probably took it a bit easier for the rest of the afternoon not wanting to get an injury before his foreign trips this then meant the father & son pairing Robert & Colin Teed managed to gain 3 3rd placing between them, the only riders not to place in the top 3 were Martyn Guilbert & Darren Clarke
Next Meeting May 9th (Liberation Day) 12 Noon.
