Sand Racing  July 5th 2008

We have reached the mid point of this seasons racing & though some championships remain fairy competitive some are already nearing their conclusion. In the racing car class Ian Shorto has been the only regular competitor so keeps racking up the points even if he misses the odd race. For this meeting his only challengers were Colin Bridle in the Skoda Special which has just had a major engine rebuild so was only being run in & not run in anger & Mark Ozanne who having problems with his regular saloons had dug out the Sierra Jaguar 4000cc & was having some close battles with the modified saloon of Paul Guymer in his Subaru Impreza. The only other modified saloon present was Graham Jehan’s venerable Austin Mini Mk1 running with only a 1235cc engine.

In the large production car class Shaun Leigh will have seen his lead cut as a change of car means he now no longer gets the first place points so allowing Simon Carre to close the gap whilst John Le Page is the only other runner in this class. The most closely contested class is for Production cars 1401-1800cc where the 4 main rivals all race variations of the same car. Class leader Doug Le Fevre didn’t fair very well only gaining 1 first place position before a coming together with Martin Dorey in the 3rd championship race wrecked his front suspension thus allowing his main challengers to gain valuable points. In the small production class Eric Trump still leads as Paul Stanford has yet to find a car that will challenge him, for this meeting he was running a 1400cc Renault Clio, as the car kept jumping out of gear the engine was being over revved which did it no good as the engine decided to blow up.

In the Cadet bike class it wasn’t a good meeting for Dean Chandler as the Rive twins on their large engined Honda 100cc bikes & even Joshua Lambourne on his little 50 cc KTM seemed to out race the GCS Mk3 65cc bike.

For the adult bike riders it was a normal championship meeting but because of the changed format this season a number of the Motocross riders have decided not to continue racing thus leaving only Phil Ferbarche & Eddie Goracy on these bikes. In the slider class Sand Ace Champion Anthony Queripel won 4 out of his 6 rides the other 2 wins going to his cousin Anthony Bougourd whist Dave Cleal, Mike Clarke & Jon Le Page mixed up the remaining podium positions.

A 4 week gap now allows everyone to have a breather before the next meeting on August 2nd at 12.45pm
