SANDRACING REPORT 30/08/2008
At last a bright, sunny, warm day (not a cloud in sight & no wind) for the 9th round of this season. Unfortunately in the junior bike class we were down to just 2 riders with only the Rive twins being present. Billy-Reece proving to be the more dominate rider taking 4 wins to Ricky-lee’s 2 though Billy did cause their 5th race to be red flagged after taking a tumble in the wet bend needing the Ambulance crew to check him over. 20 minutes later he was back out for their last race of the day. In the adult 500cc bikes Anthony Queripel stamped his authority on this championship meeting taking 4 wins out of a possible 5 starts with Anthony Bougoud taking the other race win on a day when his bike was giving him more problems then usual. Jon Le Page was riding constantly to gain 4 second places whilst Dave Cleal took 3 3rd place spots. One or two riders lost out on higher placing as the clerk of the course was ducking them a lap for riding outside of the course thus allowing the usual lower placed riders to gain extra points. In the Committee cup race it was another one, two, three for Queripel, Le Page & Cleal. With only 2 motocross bike riders is was wins all the way for club bike captain Phil Ferbrache whilst season newcomer Eddy Goracy is gaining more experience.
The racing cars were up to an entry of 5 but by the end of practice that was down to 4 as Ricky Le Cheminant had suffered the same problem as at the previous meeting but this time breaking both drive shafts on the single seater Kawasaki. For once Ian Shorto didn’t dominate the races as a broken 2nd gear was bulking his gear changes thus allowing Trevor Le Page to take the all important championship race wins whilst Simon Carre in only his 2nd meeting with the Z Bird took the 2nd place spots. Paul Morgan was the 4th driver out in Ian Robert’s ZZR 1100cc but was taking it home in need of some serious repairs.
In the last race of the day for all cars Paul unfortunately spun in the wet bend just after overtaking Shaun Leigh’s Honda saloon & though Shaun tried to brake as hard as possible there was not enough distance before he t-boned into the side of the grasstracker, this immediately brought out the red flag & call for the ambulance again but luckily Paul was only winded & bruised. The Modified saloons ran with the racing cars thus giving the fast Impreza a chance to mix it with them whilst the orange cars of Colin & Graham raced their own race. The Production saloons again had their own championship races & again Eric Trump in the 1343cc Civic could race with & often lead the 3 CRX 1600cc cars whilst the larger cars of John Le Page & Shaun Leigh battled for the lead in these races.
The Penultimate meeting of this year will be on 27th September at 10.30am.
