SANDRACING REPORT 27/09/2008

The penultimate meeting of this season was held on a bright sunny warm late September morning with the largest entry of bikes for a normal meeting with 14 riders being present including 3 Jersey riders who were not use to riding with such a large number of competitors. The rider catching most people’s eyes was 15year old Jersey rider Joe Bishop on a 350cc slider machine who showed he didn’t worry about mixing it with the older more experienced riders riding in about 5th or 6th place. Though he won his class in the first race he unfortunately took a tumble as he came out of the wet bend for the second time in the second race & touched rear wheels with another rider desperately trying to stay inside the course, at the same time his fellow Jersey man Jamie Griffiths also took a tumble on the inside of the course. This meant the race was red flagged & though both riders were back up & walking around it was deemed necessary to take them off to hospital for a check up. They both returned to the beach by the end of the meeting with only cuts & bruises. This meant that the meeting was delayed by about 50 minutes but only 3 of the remaining races were lost though the non championship car races were reduced to 5 laps. In the 500cc class Anthony Queripel has most likely picked up the Championship trophy & Phil Ferbrache the 350cc Championship. There were no junior present for this meeting.

In the car classes due to safety reasons the racing cars would have there own races whilst all the car classes raced together. Though 5 racing cars were present Graham Carrington’s Jaguar never made it out to the line as having had to replace a piston damaged at the 1st meeting of the year the car threw a pulley when fired up on the beach. Making a return appearance was Mark Ozanne in his 4000cc Tyson which gave Trevor Le Page’s Allyson Hyabusa a run for his money when it was running correctly. Simon Carre having fitted an alternator to the Z Bird found that this hammered the electrics so soon disconnected it so this left Ian Shorto to take all the class wins & become Racing Car Champion. There was a poor field of only 7 saloons but though there were some problems they were all running at the end of the meeting. It is almost certain that Eric Trump (Production up to 1400cc) Shaun Leigh (Production over 1801cc) & Paul Guymer (Modified saloons) are champions for 2008 this only leaving the Production class 1401-1800cc to be decided as there is only 6 points between Dean Leaver & Doug Le Fevre.

The Final meeting of the season is on Saturday 18th October at 2pm when the bike boys will have their 3rd Team Challenge, as both Albecq All Stars & Richmond Rebels have one win each the battle will be one for final victory.
