Sandracing Report June 7th 2008
This the 5th meeting of the season was for the slider boys their highlight of the year as this was the SandAce meeting with an influx of English riders to compete against, a full report of this portion of the event should be written by a press reporter. Though this was the main event, the junior riders & cars provided backup support for the meeting. In the Junior section again there were only four riders with Frankie Brouard making his 1st appearance of the season & taking all 4 race wins followed by the Rive twins & little Josh Lambourne would was recorded as doing 33mph approaching the dry bend on his little 50cc bike. Hopefully these 4 riders were watching the action of the senior riders & one day we’ll see them competing at a higher level.
The car competitors also only had 4 races, 3 for championship points & one scratch race. For this meeting Mark Le Page had taken over his brothers Hyabusa engined grass track machine but he still could not keep up with the very quick car of Ian Shorto. Mark Ozanne brought down 2 different saloon cars but in the first race the turbo on the Mitshibshi Evo caught fire leaving that car on the sidelines whilst in the next race a poor start saw Mark being filled in, only for the wipers to fail on the Prelude so Mark had to pull out of the race with no vision. For once Paul Guymer had sorted the problems on the Subaru Impreza & was able to take 4 saloon car wins whilst Colin Bridle had coil & puncture problems to overcome in the bright orange Mazda. In the Production cars Eric Trump had no competition in the smallest class so was unable to claim any points so was racing purely for fun but also suffered a puncture problem. In the 1400-1800 class Doug Le Fevre had a mixed afternoon taking a win in the first race but then suffering electrical /fuel problems which left him running on 2 cylinders for the following two races, just keeping the car going to cross the finish line to collect valuable championship points as team mate Dean Leaver collected those two wins followed by Martin Dorey & Andrew Robilliard (the only non Honda CRX) he being in a Fiesta XR2 on its first visit to the beach.. In the larger class once John Le Page had had to retire with back pains in the mighty Audi Quattro it became an all automatic race between Simon Carre in the Honda Prelude & Shaun Leigh out in a Honda Accord, giving the Vauxhall Cavalier a rest (mainly to use for hill climbing).
The next meeting on 5th July at 1.45pm will be celebrating Millard’s 100TH Birthday.
