October Autotests
The season began on an extremely fine October afternoon at Alliance car park, with the three main competitors (musketeers) plus Mark Scott in his ‘Bubblegum Rally Honda Concerto.
Martin (Bimbo) Dorey started the event with the fastest times but after collecting a couple of penalty points, brother Peter took the lead. However their impeccably prepared Metro developed a fault in the braking system, leaving them with virtually no foot brake and having to rely on the hydraulic handbrake only. This appeared to upset Peter who then incurred some penalty points and slowing both drivers especially when Bimbo broke first gear, leaving them with second gear and reverse only.
This allowed Eric Trump to take the lead in his Rover Metro. Meanwhile Mark Scott, a relative newcomer with a larger and automatic car started slowly and collecting penalty points by not stopping astride lines and forgetting the course. Soon Peter assisted him by offering to sit in as navigator, but the next test he would have been quicker if he had again had brain fade but instead collected 4 penalty points. However Peter’s instructions soon assisted ‘Flash’ and only collecting 2 penalty points in the second half of the program.
