March Autotest & Championship Report

The day promised an exciting end to the championship with the Dorey brothers both on equal points after dropping one score. We were not disappointed. With the open area of Alliance car park, Martin (Bimbo) was able to capitalise on his exuberant driving style consistently beating Peter’s times for the first 7 tests taking the lead by some 10 seconds. A mistake in test 8 saw Martin lose 7 of those seconds to Peter. Whether this put him off I do not know but next test Martin collected a 10 second penalty. From then on their times remained fairly close to each other but Peter’s more exacting style won the day and the Championship.

Peter Jory, driving the larger Honda Civic, had a good day taking a well deserved 3rd place, although 4th placed Scott Rayson (Suzuki automatic) took 3rd place by 1 point from PeterJory.

Shaun Leigh and Mike Bichard (Ford Ka) were 5th and 6th respectively with only 8 seconds separating them. In his only drive this season Paul (Franky) Morgan (Suzuki automatic) also enjoyed his afternoon, driving into 7th place. Back from ski-ing ex champion Eric Trump had a penalty gaining day and as such was not on form in his Metro finishing the last place and unable to place in the championship having missed 2 events.

May I thank all the competitors for swelling the ranks and making this an interesting and exciting season; and may this continue into next season which starts in October. But special thanks go to both officials Paul Stanford and Roger King.
