November 2008 Autotest Report
Nostalgia was in the air as for the first time in many years the event returned to using the loading bay at Channel Express and the closed Longue Hougue Lane. On arrival we wondered how we would fair as some trucks had been left on the loading bay, however a few phone calls later and these were soon removed. This did cause a slight delay for the start, but it was excellent to have 11 entrants, ranging in car sizes from the Mini and Ford Ka to the taxi sized Volvo.
Peter Dorey had drawn the tests and offered to start first. He had an excellent afternoon , being fastest in many of the tests an also not collecting any penalty points. This placed him 30 seconds ahead of brother Martin, in their shared Metro. Third place went to a very pleased Scott Rayson in the Ford Ka, some 40 seconds behind.
The next three places were seperated by only 6 seconds, Tim Torode (Mini)leading the pack, from Eric Trump (Metro) and Peter Jory (Ford Ka). Dave Williams campaigned an automatic Suzuki to finish 7th followed by Nigel Ozanne (Mini).
Simon Carre (Volvo) and Shaun Leigh with Mike Bichard (Honda Ballard) retired during the event in order to save their cars for next weeks Autocross event.
It was good to see some less experienced Autotesters mixing it with some of the more experienced competitors and hope this will continue for the rest of the season.
