Autotest
at Coop Lowlands on 18th November 2007
At
times the number of spectators watching outnumbered the number of competitors
taking part in the second round of the 2007/08 series held on a wet afternoon
on the tight & slippery Co-op Lowlands car park. Due to concerns over
safety issues & to keep the neighbours happy the start was move to the
corner of the L shaped car park so that all tests started down the back leg of
the L before returning at speed to the main car parking area for the final stops
& spins before crossing the finishing line. Of course it was three
stalwarts of this branch of motor sport that were competing with the Dorey
brothers sharing the fairly wind & water tight Metro up against Eric Trumps
open Mini Special.
Though
Peter gained 20 penalty points for clipping a cone & failing a stop astride
a line to Martins 10 penalty for failing to stop astride the finish line his
cleaner driving style meant he was quicker over the ground compared to Martins
more flamboyant driving style which meant the car was sliding around a bit too
much on the slippery surface.. Eric who had drawn the tests came away with 10
penalty points for a line fail plus a further 60 points for 2 wrong tests, one
of these could be put down to having to change from his Mini with electrical
fuel problems to having to share the Dorey’s Metro for the final couple of
tests.
